Double Torsion Springs

Double torsion springs are helical springs with two, separate bodies that are designed with ends that can be rotated in angular deflection. Like regular torsion springs, they can function either apply a rotational force or offer resistance to externally applied force. Double torsion springs consist of one right-hand and one left-hand coil section that are connected together in the center of the spring. Both sides work in parallel to double the torque output. Double torsion springs are usually close wound (coils touching) either for stability, or to maximize space efficiency. When an application demands low friction or a certain area to be filled without the use of spacers, the double torsion springs can be designed with a pitch or space between the coils.
Peninsula Spring can assist in prototyping and manufacturing almost any coil diameter, tongue and leg configuration in order to provide you with a solution to your assembly. For example, the legs may be located at varying positions, angles, or distances from the body of the spring.
Custom Double-Torsion Spring Applications
Double Torsion Springs, also know as radial or angular springs, can be used in many applications and can be manufactured from a variety of materials and finishes. At Peninsula Spring, we can produce any type of torsion spring to meet your specifications. They can be found in almost anything from simple, old machinery to complex medical devices to space applications. Regardless of the industry, there is always a high demand for engineered, custom double-torsion springs.
